Aston Villa have left centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis out of their registered Champions League squad for the league phase. Leaving a summer signing out of the Champions League squad is a significant statement from Unai Emery. Taylor Harwood-Bellis was central to Southampton's promotion push and arrived at Villa Park with genuine expectation of first-team football, yet he now faces a period on the margins of the European campaign. With Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos and others ahead of him in the defensive pecking order, Harwood-Bellis may have to rely on domestic cup appearances and Premier League minutes to stay sharp. The decision raises fresh questions about his long-term pathway at Villa and could eventually open the door to a January loan move.
